Hair fall vs. hair loss — is there a difference?
In everyday Filipino English, 'hair fall' usually means the daily shedding you see in the shower or brush (nalalagas na buhok), while 'hair loss' suggests visible thinning. Medically they sit on one spectrum: shedding up to about 100 hairs a day is normal; persistent heavier shedding or a widening part deserves a closer look. Products marketed as pampakapal ng buhok (hair thickeners) cosmetically coat the shaft — they do not change what follicles do.
Is it normal to lose hair every time I wash?
Yes — washing releases hairs that had already detached. Fifty to a hundred a day is normal renewal. Count trend, not single days: if the amount clearly rises over several weeks, investigate.
My part is getting wider but my hairline is fine. What is this?
That pattern is typical female-pattern (androgenetic) thinning. It is worth a dermatologist visit to confirm and discuss options early. Cosmetically, this exact pattern is what hair toppers were invented for — density on top while your own hairline frames your face.
I gave birth 3 months ago and my hair is falling out in handfuls. Will it stop?
Almost certainly yes. Postpartum shedding peaks around month 3–4 and settles over the following months as the cycle normalises. Be gentle with styling, keep nutrition up, and if it hasn't calmed by the baby's first birthday, get it checked.
Do extensions cause hair loss?
Badly fitted, too-heavy extensions can — that is traction damage. Correctly weighted, professionally placed and maintained extensions do not harm healthy hair. The fitting matters more than the product.
My teenage daughter has a round bald patch. Stress?
Round, sharply bordered patches point to alopecia areata — an autoimmune condition, not stress or hygiene, and not her fault. Please see a dermatologist soon; early treatment can help, and regrowth is common. We cover it gently and in depth at alopecia.ph.
Are hair systems for men obvious?
Modern custom systems of real human hair, matched to your colour, density and hairline, are not detectable in normal life — that is the difference between a custom fit and an off-the-shelf piece. See real client photos at hairsystems.ph.
What blood tests should I ask for?
A sensible starter panel: ferritin (iron stores), TSH (thyroid), vitamin D, and in women with irregular cycles, androgens. Bring photos of your parting from different months — trends beat impressions.
Can stress alone make hair fall out?
Yes — major physical or emotional stress can push many follicles into resting phase at once (telogen effluvium), with shedding 2–4 months later. It recovers once the stressor passes. Chronic low-grade stress is less clear-cut but worth managing anyway.
Is coconut oil good for hair loss?
Coconut oil is a decent conditioner for the hair shaft — it reduces protein loss from washing. It does not regrow hair or affect follicles. Enjoy it as care, don't expect treatment.
I can't afford a dermatologist right now. What can I do meanwhile?
Free basics: photograph your parting monthly, loosen your hairstyles, sleep and protein, check if a barangay health center can do basic blood work. And ask us — the community has been through most situations, and asking costs nothing.
